John has been providing technical support for purging applications at Sun Plastech for over 15 years. John's chemical engineering background coupled with the expertise gained from sales and technical support experiences qualify him as one of the most knowledgeable purging compound experts in America. His articles on purging have been published in several industry magazines with high acclaim.
As a processor, you're probably no stranger to the typical purging applications such as color and material changes. You're also well-aware of the benefits of using a good purging compound. Or are you? Are you using your purging compound to its fullest potential? Is your purge saving your company time and money on every application possible? Or do you subscribe to that old saying: "If it isn't broken, don't fix it?" What if it *is* broken but you just don't know it yet? If you apply this to purging that means you only purge when you SEE the problem, but chances are the problem has been brewing for quite some time. And when you purge at this point, you could be burning through an excessive amount of purge and time to fix the problem, and in some cases, may not even fix the problem!
This webinar takes a slightly different approach to addressing processing issues that can be resolved by purging. It explains how adopting a "Preventative Maintenance" program using periodic purging can further help save on changeover time, resin and purge material and ultimately money. It also stresses the unique benefits of using purging compound as a sealing agent during temporary or extended machine shutdowns. Also, it's proven that an effective purge can reduce and in some cases even eliminate the need for screw-pulls. And when they're absolutely unavoidable, a purging compound should be used to make the screw-pull faster with less effort. Finally, this presentation details some of the preventable causes of product contamination issues and potential solutions.
