AB PLASTICS CORP. — The Gardena, Calif., custom injection and structural foam molder hired Andrew Schmidt, formerly of Mulay Plastics, as manager of business development.

CERTAINTEED CORP. — Frits van der Klooster was named vice president of manufacturing for the roofing products group in Valley Forge, Pa. He was vice president of manufacturing for pipe maker Hancor Inc. of Findlay, Ohio.

DOW-UNITED TECHNOLOGIES COMPOSITE PRODUCTS INC. — Bruce Alspach was named president and chief executive officer of the Wallingford, Conn., joint venture, formed in 1989 to develop an advanced process for making composite parts for aerospace applications. Alspach was vice president and general manager of the aerospace division of Trimble Navigation Ltd. of Austin, Texas.

OWENS CORNING — Michael Thaman was named president of Engineered Pipe Systems, replacing Scott Koepke, who left the Toledo, Ohio, company in November.

NMC FASTENING SYSTEMS — Hal Sazzmann was named chief operating officer of the Monrovia, Calif., unit of Nylon Molding Corp.

SPARTECH CORP. — David Pocost was named vice president, quality and environmental affairs, for the St. Louis-based film and sheet maker.

SUMMIT PLASTIC SOLUTIONS INC.—The custom injection molder announced several changes. Larry Adkisson was named corporate vice president of operations. Daniel Kerkhoff, who was vice president of sales administration, was named general manager of the Pro Division. Bernard Golob, who was Pro engineering manager, was named corporate tooling director. Golob is succeeded by Mike Martinez. Keith Jung succeeds Tom Mauser, who is retiring, as materials manager.

VINYL INSTITUTE — Mark Sofman was named manager of industry affairs for the Morristown, N.J., division of the Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. He had been program manager for the PulyUrethanes Recycle and Recovery Council, a program of SPI's Polyurethanes Division.

David Knowles was named president of Cleveland-based M.A. HANNA RESIN DISTRIBUTION, succeeding Richard Anderson, who retired Dec. 31. ... J. Michael Grubb was named automotive market manager in Macomb, Mich., for FIBERITE INC., a Tempe, Ariz., maker of phenolic and bulk molding compounds.
