CLEAR FILM PROTECTS AGAINST UV DAMAGE

Ultraviolet light-absorbent film packaging protects medical devices extruded and molded by Sabin Corp. of Bloomington, Ind.

Sabin makes about 4,000 medical items and half are sensitive to UV light. Most UV-resistant packaging is opaque, making it hard for medical personnel to see if the item is the right one for the job.

Sabin solved the problem by choosing CourtGard polyester film from Courtaulds Performance Films of Martinsville, Va. CourtGard has UV absorbers deep-dyed into the film.

An undisclosed processor laminates one-half-mil CourtGard film onto 2-mil polyethylene film using clear adhesive. Sabin converts the film into pouches.
