Custom Molded Plastics Inc. recently added two wide-platen Cincinnati Milacron injection molding presses with 1,000 tons of clamping force, and a 2,200-ton Milacron press at the company's Durant, Okla., molding facility.

Another 2,200-ton injection molding press is to be installed this month, bringing to 33 the number of presses operated by the company.

Custom Molded Plastics specializes in large-tonnage molding for the automotive, aerospace, housewares, oil field, medical and other commercial industries. The firm is privately held by Reggie Sullivan, who purchased the 10-year-old company in 1995, CMP national sales manager Marce Gordon said in a telephone interview from his office in Fort Worth, Texas.

Gordon said the additional capacity in the large-tonnage range allows Custom Molded Plastics to meet increasing demand for projects involving large machines.

``We're one of the very few custom molders in this area — if not the only one — with large-tonnage presses of this number and variety,'' Gordon said.

Most of the presses have 500 tons of clamping force or more, but the firm operates three 300-ton presses, two 150-ton presses and one 75-ton press to round out its capabilities. CMP operates in 250,000 square feet of production, warehouse and office space, and provides sonic welding, shrink wrap and blister packaging, hot stamping and pad printing, and light assembly.

The company employs nearly 300.

CMP provides mold maintenance and repair, but subcontracts mold building and design to mold-making facilities with computer-aided design and manufacturing, and expertise in making large molds.

A rail siding and eight silos with a total of 1.25 million pounds of capacity allow CMP to buy in bulk.

The company also provides trucking via its captive trucking firm located on-site.
