MIDLAND, MICH. — Dow Plastics has signed an agreement with Milliken & Co., a LaGrange, Ga.-based producer of commercial carpet tile.
Milliken's Comfort Plus, a cushioned carpet tile, will be made exclusively with Enhancer modular carpet backing from Dow's polyurethanes business.
Dow said its PU-based backing is PVC-free, which makes it less expensive to install on most floors. If PVC-backed carpet is installed over an old adhesive, plasticizers in the PVC will react with the existing adhesive, causing adhesive bleed-through at the seams, Dow said. The result may be tile slippage and discoloring of the carpet.
Enhancer is a mechanically frothed microcellular cushion reaction-bonded to the carpet substrate. Dow is based in Midland.
