LAKEVILLE, MINN. — A three-alarm fire Feb. 6 at film extruder Strout Plastics Inc. involved about half of the firm's 45,000-square-foot plant in Lakeville.

Three employees who were in the building at the time escaped unharmed, said Lakeville Fire Marshal Jim Michel.

Officials have not determined the cause of the fire, which started at 1 a.m. The warehouse area, about 20,000 square feet, sustained the most damage.

The company extrudes and recycles low and linear low density polyethylene film. For one of its recycling programs, Strout recovers used LDPE garment bags from Mall of America and reconverts the plastic into merchandise bags for the mall.
