AUBURN HILLS, MICH. — LDM Technologies Inc. of Auburn Hills has purchased Walled Lake, Mich.-based automotive parts supplier Molmec Inc., according to several industry sources.

LDM, a large-volume Tier 1 auto supplier, signed a pact in the fall to buy Molmec and recently completed the sale, sources said.

Officials at both LDM and Molmec did not return repeated telephone calls requesting information. However, Molmec has begun answering its phones as ``Molmec-LDM Technologies,'' and Molmec President Robert Vamos has set up an office at LDM. The sale price has not been reported.

The two privately held firms both make interior and exterior auto components. LDM, which operates six plants and 100 presses, had 1996 sales of $350 million and was sixth in Plastics News' annual ranking of North American injection molders.

Molmec molds nylon door handles, door assemblies and other components. The company was 47th in the ranking, with $85 million in sales. Molmec has five plants and 48 presses.
