The Department of Commerce predicted Tier 1 automotive parts firms would eliminate as many as 20 percent of their suppliers in 1992 to cut costs.

Auto parts producer Kawartha Plastics of Peterborough, Ontario, went into receivership because of slumping sales. Chrysler Corp. began talks that led to the sale of its Sandusky Vinyl Products Corp. operation to Eastar Inc. of Little Rock, Ark.

Bernard J. O'Donnell, vice president of sales and marketing for Van Dorn Plastic Machinery Co., died at age 54 from cancer.
