Five years ago this week in Plastics News:

Phillips Plastics Corp. planned to open an eighth injection molding plant, in Menomonie, Wis., after recording 1991 sales of about $75 million, according to Plastics News estimates. (Phillips had 11 plants and sales of $135 million for the year ended June 30, 1995).

General Motors Corp. jolted the sheet molding compound industry when it said it would close its North Tarrytown, N.Y., plant, which assembled its All-Purpose Vehicle with SMC body panels.

Atlantis Group Inc. agreed to the validity of stretch film manufacturing patents held by Mobil Chemical Co. and said it would sign a license for the patents.
