STE. MARIE DE BEAUCE, QUEBEC — Plastic bathware producer Maax Inc. announced a stock split effective April 1.

Each common share was split into two common shares, the Ste. Marie de Beauce-based firm said.

Its stock closed March 21 at C$21.75 (US$15.77) on the Montreal Stock Exchange.

It has traded between C$8.50 (US$6.16) and C$23.50 (US$17.04) a share in the past year.

Maax recently said it completed the purchase of bathware producer Bremen Glas Inc. of Bremen, Ind., for US$5.2 million.

It also began leasing a facility in Ste. Marie de Beauce to produce modular bathroom units for SG Kai Ltd. of Tokyo.

When Maax last year announced the deal to supply SG Kai, the firm said it planned to make the units at its Axam Division.

But Maax said earlier this year that Axam ``has a very full order book'' and lacks enough space to manufacture for the Japanese contract.
