Wayne extrusion unit produces test sheet

Wayne Machine & Die Co. of Totowa, N.J., introduced a twin-screw direct extrusion system that extrudes plastic into sheet for testing.

The extruder has co-rotating, intermeshing screws.

The machine can be used for compounding a variety of polymers. Optional coextruders make coextruded sheet.

Zytel nylon finds use in heating chamber

DuPont Co. polymers stand the heat in on-demand water heaters made by Microtherm Inc. of Conroe, Texas.

The Seisco heater electrically heats water when needed, eliminating the need for a bulky storage tank. It also cuts down on heat losses from a tank while it is not in use.

The Seisco heating chamber has seven injection molded parts of Zytel resin, based on nylon 6/12 with 33 percent glass fiber and a heat-stabilizer system. The resin has long-term heat stability and meets standards of the National Sanitation Foundation and Underwriters Laboratories Inc.

A DuPont Crastin PBT polyester is used for the dust cover because of strength, impact resistance and flame resistance.

Rio Grande Plastic Products Inc. of Alamo, Texas, injection molds the parts for Microtherm.

Flow chop technology cuts styrene emission

New Flow Chop technology from Venus-Gusmer Inc. of Kent, Wash., significantly reduces emissions of styrene and other volatile organic compounds when using chopper guns in composites fabricating.

Traditionally, the company said, the high velocity required by the process caused misting of the stream, releasing high amounts of styrene.

Venus-Gusmer re-engineered the spray nozzle to give a more highly concentrated stream of fluid. A newly designed chopper chute breaks up and widens the chopped glass.

Maag Pump expands its controllers line

Maag Pump Systems of America Inc. has extended its line of controller systems, and introduced a bearing lube groove design to its pumps.

The MPC 4000 is flexible and easy to use, the Matthews, N.C.-based company said. It is run on an Intel DX4-1000 microprocessor, which can be expanded to the Intel Pentium series of processor. It has a touch screen.

The M/T bearing lube groove design improves flow characteris-tics when using PET, the firm said.

Mattec issues update of ProHelp program

Mattec Corp. has launched release 2.6 of its ProHelp Millennium software for production and process monitoring.

The Loveland, Ohio, company said performance enhancements include superior resource scheduling, management reports, five-year historical reporting, and collection of statistical process control data. The data reports the area under the curve generated on-screen, the mean and the times that a peak or minimum occurs, and can plot several charts on the same screen.

Historical reporting can be by week, month, quarter or year, to five years. The software can predict in advance what resources will be needed. A new Future Requirements Schedule feature in 2.6 schedules material, operators, machines and tools.

Software releases work in combination

Plastics & Computer Inc. has announced new, fully integrated releases of its faBest Finite Element Flow Analysis and faGaim Gas Assisted Flow Analysis software, which can be used together to design parts that combine sequential-filling injection molding with gas-assisted molding.

The Dallas company said the combination should be attractive for molders of large, aesthetic and structural parts such as appliance housings, furniture and automotive bumpers.

The faBest software handles gate timing for sequential gating during fill by identifying the precise moment the flow intercepts each gate to recommend the best actuating time. And faGaim is used to refine processing conditions and locations of gas inlets to completely core-out gas channels without gas penetrating into adjacent sections.
