Isodamp TP controls mechanical energy

E-A-R Specialty Composites of Indianapolis is touting its Isodamp C-1002 high-performance damping and isolation material.

The thermoplastic controls noise, vibration, motion and shock in a variety of applications, from softening vibration in off-road vehicles to preventing unwanted movement in precision equipment.

The company claims the material has an unusually high material-loss factor, is strong, lightweight and flexible, resists flame and environmental degradation, and has good anti-skid properties.

Cyrex 200 alloys allow low-heat processing

Carolina Color Corp. introduced acrylic/polycarbonate alloys for injection molding and sheet extrusion.

Cyrex 200 alloy concentrates are aimed at uses requiring high-impact strength and easy processing. The Delaware, Ohio, firm said the products can be injection molded at 75-100 F lower than for polycarbonate. Carolina supplies them in opaque custom colors.

Concentrates contain no carrier resin, wax

Thermocolor Corp.'s new highly loaded concentrates contain no carrier resin or wax, allowing them to be mixed into a range of thermoplastics, according to the Sandusky, Ohio, compounder.

Thermocolor said it uses its patented E-Z Color technology to combine resin, color and additives into pellets. The black concentrate has a let-down ratio of 500:1, while the standard white concentrate has pigment loading of 85 percent and let-down ratio of 100:1.

Howxhst introduces long-fiber polymers

Hoechst Technical Polymers debuted three long-glass-fiber-reinforced polymers it claims provide four to seven times the impact strength of short-fiber resins.

Celstran PPSG50-01-4 is a 50 percent-filled linear polyphenylene sulfide that retains PPS' resistance to solvents and high temperatures.

Celstran PPG-40-03 is a 40 percent-filled polypropylene suited to under-the-hood automotive uses.

Hoechst touted it as a lighter-weight, easier-to-process alternative to PET.

Celstran ACG40-01-4, a 40 percent-filled acetal copolymer, has notched Izod impact strength of nearly 8 foot-pounds per inch, the Summit, N.J., company said.

Millennium HDPE provides high gloss

Millennium Petrochemicals Inc.'s new high density polyethylene is aimed at glossy extrusion and injection blow molding applications.

Petrothene LS 9020-46 provides three times as much gloss as conventional HDPE resins, according to the Cincinnati-based firm, formerly called Quantum Chemical Corp.

The material also has better environmental stress-crack resistance, but slightly less column crush resistance. It processes at lower temperatures, allowing higher productivity, the company claims.
