The pending return of PET production to Canada is the top item in this week's Plastics News Material Insights. Selenis Canada plans to convert a specialty resin plant in Montreal-East, Quebec, to PET by the third quarter of 2010. The new business is owned by Portugese investor ImatosGil. This week's video also includes confirmation of Plastimin LLC adding bioplastic compounds based on material supplied by Metabolix. Plastimin will begin offering those products to customers in early 2010. News of a $132,000 federal research grant going to North Carolina technology firm Materials Innovation Technologies concludes this week's episode. Materials Innovation plans to use the funding to develop specialty plastics based on recycled material.
