Local Motors is a Chandler, Ariz.-based car company setting a radical course to design, manufacture, and sell cars. CEO and Co-founder Jay Rogers spoke with Plastics News at the recent Industrial Designers Society of America conference in Portland, Ore., about his vision. Local Motors creates a direct connection with customers who guide design development. Local Motors will build micro-factories in regions where demand is highest for the new designs. Cars will be built and sold on a just-in-time basis. The first Local Motors design concept to be designed by a community of enthusiasts and talented designers worldwide is the Rally Fighter by Sangho Kim.
