By Design: Styrobots designer Michael Salter

September 15, 2010

For four days, a giant robot towered over speakers at the Industrial Designers Society of America's annual conference in Portland, looming behind discussions of computer-aided-design software, cars and shoes. But Michael Salter, its creator, told Plastics News Editor Robert Grace that no one had to worry: The 16-foot robot, created from pieces of polystyrene foam that once held computers and electronics, posed no threat. Salter, a professor at the niversity of Oregon, has created several "Styrobots" for museums and corporate lobbies worldwide.
