Some surprising late-year price increases have hit North American commodity resin markets. Average per-pound prices for polyethylene and polystyrene are up since Nov. 1, while regional suspension PVC prices climbed in both October and November and PET bottle resin prices rose in September and October. As PN senior reporter FRank Esposito reports in this week's Material insights, anaylsts are warning of low consuemr demand in 2011 and price volatility, since processors have reduced inventory so much during the recession.
