Brennan Lafferty has been named publisher of Waste & Recycling News, succeeding Bob Simmons, who has retired. Simmons also served as publications director for Plastics News and sister Crain publications Rubber & Plastics News and Tire Business. He was a sales manager and publisher for Crain for 36 years.

“Bob's contributions to the industry are many,” said Crain Communications Inc. Chairman Keith Crain. “He not only led our rubber, polymer and waste titles admirably, but he also launched many pre-eminent industry events. ... He was the guiding force behind the start of Waste News in 1995.

“Throughout his career, Bob has been a great leader, and his combination of innovative ideas and kind-heartedness will continue to inspire the many employees and clients he has interacted with over the past 36 years.”

Lafferty, 40, became associate publisher in December. As publisher he is responsible for management of the publication, reporting to group publisher KC Crain.

“Brennan is the consummate 'idea guy' who constantly strives to move the business forward,” KC Crain said.

Lafferty began his career with WRN as a copy editor in January 1997, was promoted to assistant managing editor in March 1999 and managing editor that August. In May 2007 he became the eastern sales manager for WRN.
