Prices for North American PET bottle resin have dropped an average of 2 cents per pound since Oct. 1, according to buyers contacted by Plastics News. Production-related news from Clariant Masterbatches and Total Petrochemicals USA also is featured in this week's video. Clariant recently consolidated its Chicago-area concentrate production by moving production from McHenry, Ill. to nearby West Chicago. In Carville, La., Total has opted to permanently close a 200 million pound-capacity polystyrene line that's been down since the second half of 2010. Finally, there are new details about Dow Chemical's planned restart of ethlene and propylene production in Hahnville, La.
