TROISDORF, GERMANY (Jan. 10, 12 p.m. ET) — European PVC sheet and window profile producer Profine International Profile Group GmbH has taken a new step in its global expansion strategy with a project to launch its first plant in India.

The Troisdorf-based company, which already has plants in Russia, the Ukraine, China and the United States, has been active in the Indian market for five years under the brand name K"mmerling. The extrusion plant, being established by Indian subsidiary Profine India Window Technology, will open later this year at an as yet undisclosed site.

Profine India will manufacture customized window systems for the national market, such as an outward opening and a special sliding system, at the new facility, the firm said. Its local offshoot is based in Gurgaon in Haryana state.

“We treat India as growth market which we are developing gradually together with our customers. After establishing our own subsidiary [in India] in 2010, local extrusion is the next step in this journey,” said Profine’s chief strategy officer Albrecht Lange.

The German company not only supplies plastic window and door systems worldwide, but also PVC sheet and shutter systems. Formed in 2003 when HT Troplast consolidated its profile systems businesses including K"mmerling, KBE and Trocal, under one roof, today has 3,200 employees at 28 locations in 21 countries. In Germany, its workforce numbers 1,800.

In 2010, the group recorded annual sales worth 696 million euros ($891 million) and has a current capacity of 450,000 metric tons per year.

Profine’s production sites abroad include Tianjin, China; Woskresensk and Chabarovsk in Russia; Zaporozhie, Ukraine and Huntsville, Ala., in the United States. It also has plants in France, Italy and Spain.
