NEW DELHI (Jan. 11, 3 p.m. ET) — Automotive interior and exterior maker Mutual Industries Ltd. has decided to set up its fifth plant, in Dharwad, India.

“The plant would cater the evolving auto hub in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The plant will operational by 2013,” said F. Walter Diomen, director of business development, at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2012.

Mutual makes bumpers for VW, Skoda, Tata, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra Navistar. The firm’s Uttranchal plant caters to M&M, Tata and Ashok Leyland. Its Silvasa (Goa) plant manufactures for Ford, Peugeot and GM.

The company has two plants in Pune to cater to India’s biggest auto hub, while a Vasai plant manufactures molds.

Mutual built the first bumper mold for the Tata Safari back in 1995. It built a Mahindra Bolero tool in 1999 and established a bumper assembly line approved by VW in 2010.

Mutual is also taking lightweight initiatives to OEMs, Doimen said.

“We are now working with M&M and Tata on lightweighting their cars. The technology would be able to lighten the vehicle by 20-30 percent,” he said.
