Green polyols for new PURs

Published: February 15, 2012 6:00 am ET

Innovative Polymers Inc. of Saint Johns, Mich., has introduced its InnoGreen line of biobased polyurethanes

“We developed our new line of biobased polyurethanes to provide customers with environmentally sound casting materials that offer measurable carbon benefits to contribute to reduced global warming,” noted Innovative Polymers President Michael Molitor in a news release.

The PUR products include elastomers with Shore 30A to 90A hardness and a rigid PUR with Shore 80D hardness.

The InnoGreen polymers are designed for hand-batch and vacuum-assisted casting and for overmolding biobased foams. They contain 30 to 40 percent soy-oil based polyols. Soy oil is a sustainable ingredient derived from soybean processing.

InnoGreen PURs have low viscosity for easy handling and processing, according to the company. Once cured they can withstand elongations of up to 200 percent.
