The “T” series of infrared profiler gauges from Agr International Inc. offer an alternative to section weight cutting for checking material distribution during the production of PET bottles.

They can be used on the plant floor or in the laboratory. The easy-to-use devices provide operators with data in less than 10 seconds, without the need to destroy the bottle.

The gauges use Agr’s infrared measurement technology to scan the sidewall of the bottle, to generate a visual representation of wall thickness, material distribution and bottle height. Graphs representing current measurements are superimposed over a graph of an ideal baseline bottle, to an operator can compare ongoing production samples and instantly identify shifts in material distribution.

Information can be captured and saved to a database, or exported for use in plant-wide process management systems.

Agr, of Butler, Pa., offers “T” series profiler gauges in two versions. The PG9800T is for mono-layer containers, which can scan up to eight sections around the container and do horizontal scans at multiple height locations. The PG9810T does the same functions on multi-layer bottles and preforms.

These gauges use the same technology as Agr’s PETWall Profiler.
