ORLANDO, FLA. (April 3, 8:20 p.m. ET) — Ube Machinery Inc. (Booth 603) is showing its new UF press, a machine with 950 tons of clamping force that marks the sixth generation of Ube’s all-electric molding machines.
David Bernardi, senior sales and marketing manager at said the UF is more streamlined that the earlier Ube all-electric. Also, Ube has switched from Mitsubishi to Fanuc electric servomotors. Bernardi said Ube builds die-casting machines for Fanuc Ltd., so the companies have a good business relationship.
The company introduced the e-HUMMA controller. Other features of the UF series includes a very rigid clamp design and “Flex Servo” control that uses advanced control logic.
Ube also is introducing the Cav-Change to the U.S. market. This is Ube’s version of rotating mold technology for multi-shot molding — the mold swivels between two injection units. The UF machine can be run with Cav-Change, as well as Ube’s Dieprest low-pressure foam technology. One application is automotive sun roofs.
Ube offers all-electric presses from 720-3,900 tons, and hybrid presses from 1,000-7,000 tons.
Ube also announced—but is not showing this week in Orlando—the new hybrid two-platen press, the UU2-e. Bernardi said it has a servo-driven ball screw that moves the clamp and servo-hydraulic power for injection. Ube adapted the technology from its die-casting machines, he said at NPE2012.
The first three UU2-e machines will have clamping forces of 1,100, 1,500 and 2,200 tons. The hybrid press uses the same controller as the all-electric UF, Bernardi said.
Bernardi said Ube will assemble the UF press and UU2-e machines at its U.S. headquarters plant in Ann Arbor, Mich. The company employs 72 people.
