ORLANDO, FLA.(April 4, 7:05 p.m. ET) — Netstal Machinery Inc. (Booth 1903) is molding caps for beverage bottles on a 72-cavity mold during NPE2012, every 3.5 seconds on an Elion press with 280 metric tons of clamping force.
The hybrid Elion has an Intravis optical inspection system.
Bernhard Merki, president and CEO of the Swiss parent, Netstal-Maschinen AG, said the Elion, as well as the Evos press, both save energy from braking and feed it back into the machine.
In an April 2 news conference at NPE, Merki said the cycle time for the 2.18 gram closure has been cut from 5 seconds four years ago to 3.5 seconds today.
A Netstal press also is on display showing an in-mold labeling application at the Ilseman Automation Corp. exhibit (Booth 1383). “Netstal is No. 1 in the market when it comes to in-mold labeling applications,” Merki said.
He said Netstal has a strong position in the U.S. market, where the company has an installed base of 1,500 injection molding machines.
