ORLANDO, FLA. (April 16, 1:20 p.m. ET) — Indian firm Rajiv Plastics Ltd., which says it is one of Asia’s largest masterbatch makers, expanded capacity earlier this year by 40 percent, to 34,000 metric tons annually, in response to what it says growth in India’s durable goods markets.

Mumbai, India-based Rajiv said it is seeing more demand from multinational companies manufacturing in India, including Whirlpool and Electrolux, and from customers in the packaging and automotive industry.

“There is a lot of growth in engineering plastics compounds,” said Director Hemant Minocha, in an interview at NPE2012 in Orlando. “We want to be able to turn around and give our customers material in a few days.”

Minocha said the company supplies color and additive masterbatches for commodity and engineering plastics, polymer compounds and alloys and pre-colored engineering compounds, along with doing toll compounding.

The company has factories in Silvassa, north of Mumbai, and in Pune, India. The Pune factory is very close to that city’s automobile manufacturing base, including factories for General Motors, VW, Mercedes and Fiat, along with India’s Tata Motors.

“We are right in the middle of the action,” he said.
