NDC Infrared Engineering Inc. of Irwindale, Calif., rolled out several new products at NPE2012:
• The optical micrometer, the OptiMike OM190, provides direct, non-contact, single-sided thickness measurement for plastic and rubber sheet, foam and thick film products.
A light emitting diode projects a beam of light across the apex of the product to be measured, wrapped over a precision reference-backing roll. On the other side of the roll, a precision-charged couple device micrometer array measures the exact location of the top surface, to sub-micron accuracy.
The measurement instrument does not penetrate the surface of the product, and it not sensitive to the color, gloss, opacity or porosity of the material, as are laser triangulation gauges, according to NDC.
• DC also announced that its new extended film gauge, the TFG710ER, based on the TFG710 sensor to measure thin, biaxially oriented films, has been designed specifically for measuring polyolefin films across a wide range of different product thicknesses.
• The NDC FG710S infrared gauge measures the thickness of films that are clear, filled, voided or pearlized.
• NDC said its Model 8000 gauging system has a new application: a scanning blown film web gauging sytem designed to measure and control complex, multilayer film.
