ADG Solutions introduced a new programmable logic controller for the Davis-Standard ram stuffer extruder that increases productivity for recyclers of films, fibers, thermoformed sheet and other low bulk density plastics.

The control system can be retrofitted onto existing ram stuffer extruders.

ADG President Sandy Guthrie said variations in bulk density can cause major reductions in extruder throughput. “The plc control now available on the ram stuffer automatically monitors motor amperage and eliminates the operator adjustments that until now were needed to increase productivity,” he said.

The extruder has a pneumatic, reciprocating ram mounted on the feed throat that stuffs material into the screw. The controller adjusts the timing of the ram stroke according to changes in in extrusion drive amperage, which in turn is caused by changes in material bulk density.

ADG is based in Fairfield, Conn.
