At NPE2012, Eriez Manufacturing Co. introduced model CFP metal separators, which are installed above the material feedthroat of injection molding machines, extruders or blow molding machines to remove impurities from plastic regrind and virgin materials.

As the use of plastic regrind increases, so too does the change of metal contamination, according to Jeff Kaveney, manager of product marketing at the company in Erie, Pa.

CFP separators have automatic self-calibrating and monitoring. The system removes all metal contaminants by an air-powered separating slide and a venturi nozzle with a flexible hose that feeds the material into a reject container.

Eriez also rolled out its heavy-duty model CP metal separator, again for use on the feedthroat. It removes magnetic and non-magnetic metal contaminants from the slow, downward moving column of material. Metal particle are constantly removed from free-falling granulate not only at the initial fill, but also at subsequent top-ups.
