Waldorf Technik Inc. developed a new generation of automation to make medical disposables such as pipette tips and blood diagnostic caps, which saves 50 percent of the floor space.

Traditionally, pressurized air shoots the pipette tips into pipes that deliver them into cavity-sorted racks. The Waldorf automation does not use pressurized air, but instead fully controls process handling by using grippers to remove the tips from the mold, and into the rack.

That ensures that the sensitive pipette is not damaged and makes it easier to validate and track the product.

The floor space savings is especially valuable in a clean room, said Waldorf Technik President Wolfgang Czizegg.
