Miami-based Advantix Systems showed a dehumidification and air conditioning technology for injection molds at NPE2012.

The new cooling process, which uses salt water, cuts energy consumption and can improve cycle times by up to 35 percent, the company said.

TSE Industries Inc., a contract manufacturer of custom polyurethane and plastic products and a major maker of PUR rubber in Clearwater, Fla., needed to reduce humidity levels to stop mold sweating. But using a traditional vapor compression system was problematic, because raising the temperature of the chilled water results in longer cycle times and lower production rates. Desiccant wheel dryers consumed too much energy, required a complex installation and needed maintenance, according to Advantix.

One TSE Industries plant makes underground pipe is made from a glass-fiber reinforced blend that is wrapped around a cylinder and dried into pipes about 10 inches in diameter. TSE picked the Advantix technology which uses a natural sale water solution as a liquid desiccant. The salt solution also scrubs the air of resin odors and, as a natural disinfectant, removes almost all airborne bacteria and microorganisms, the company said.

Advantix Systems claims to have an installed base of more than 800 units around the world.
