Shin-Etsu shows liquid silicone at NPE

May 23, 2012

Shin-Etsu Silicones of America Inc. highlighted a liquid silicone injection molding system in demonstrations at NPE.

The Akron, Ohio, firm says its KEG-2000 series has advanced handling and molding properties. The two components of the product are mixed in a 1:1 ratio. The silicone exhibits higher viscosity under low shear stress during pumping and shut-off and lower viscosity under high shear stress during injection. The result is fast mold filling and minimal flash.

The KEG-2000 series is engineered for high performance in cold runner systems with open or closed-nozzle configurations. Shin-Etsu claims the polymer has high clarity and ranges in Shore A hardness from 10 to 80. Physical properties meet demanding applications. According to Shin-Etsu, the silicone meets FDA, USP Class VI and ISO 10993 regulations.

KEG-2000 was run at NPE on Engel, Milacron, Roembke Manufacturing & Design, and Zeiger machinery.
