An investment that will allow Braskem to continue making polypropylene resin at a plant in Marcus Hook, Pa., is featured in this week’s Material Insights video. Brazil-based Braskem will spend $56 million including $15 million from the state of Pennsylvania to buy propylene splitter assets from Sunoco in Marcus Hook. The future of the PP plant there had been in doubt when Sunoco announced the closing of an adjacent gasoline refinery that had supplied the plant with feedstock. A report of a slow first half for plastic materials-related M&A also is featured in this week’s video. The number of global materials deals fell more than 20 percent in the first half of 2012, compared to the same period in 2011, according to P&M Corporate Finance. This week's video wraps up with news that Badger Color Concentrates later this year will open a new liquid color and concentrates plant in Kings Mountain, N.C. The plant will cover 50,000 square feet and will create 25 new jobs for Badger, which is based in Mukwonago, Wis.
