WILKES BARRE, PA. (Aug. 15, 4 p.m. ET) — Vinyl window fabricator Dove Industries Inc. is closing down production at its two plants in Hanover and Dublin, Va., and ending more than 150 jobs.

The family owned company dates back to 1945, when it was founded by Philip and Nathan Dove to make venetian blinds. In the 1960s, the Dove Industries began to make aluminum storm windows, louvered windows and storm doors.

Dove began to assemble vinyl windows in 1988, and has phased out the aluminum product line.

Dove Industries filed a notice under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act that it was closing the Wilkes Barre headquarters plant, effective Aug. 13, and laying off 106 employees.

A second window plant, opened in Virginia in 2010, also is closing, according to reports. Fifty-two people worked there.

Window & Door magazine said the company sent a letter to customers saying it would close. The Aug. 9 letter from President Rick Dove said the company would liquidate. The trade magazine reported that his letter cited the weak economy that “created a significant downturn” at Dove Industries “and we have concluded that we must shut down.”

Rick Dove did not return telephone calls for this story in Plastics News.

According to the press reports, the Wilkes Barre headquarters plant measures 180,000 square feet.
