CHICAGO (Sept. 11, 8 a.m. ET) — A new closure technology being used by Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd. (CCA) of Sydney, Australia, will be the focal point of a presentation during Plastics News' Caps & Closures conference, which takes place next week in Chicago.
The warm-fill closure system technology has been developed by Krones in conjunction with CCA but the closure is an adaptation of the Sylon range developed with CCA by Universal Closures Ltd. (UCL) of Tewkesbury, England.
On Wednesday, Sept. 19, Rod Druitt, president and CEO of UCL, will deliver the presentation, “The Warm-Fill Concept: A Project with Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd.”
The technology essentially reduces the filling temperature from 85 degrees C to 75 degrees C, Druitt said in a Sept. 10 e-mail.
By reducing the filling temperature to below the glass transition temperature of PET, the packaging distortion and therefore weight/rigidity can be reduced. The further introduction of nitrogen pressurization aims to further reduce the need for vacuum handling capability in the bottle and closure.
Druitt will be among 17 expert presenters at Plastics News’ second annual Caps & Closures Conference, being held Sept. 18-19. The conference will be collocated with the 2012 Sustainability Conference of the Closure & Container Manufacturers Association, to be held on Sept. 20. Druitt also will provide an update on the successful introduction of the Sylon closures especially for carbonated soft drinks at CCA.
