MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (Sept. 19, 9:45 a.m. ET) — Melbourne-based polyurethane systems house Pacific Urethanes Pty Ltd. said Sept. 18 that it completed the purchase of Ceram Polymerik Pty Ltd. on Aug. 3.
Ceram Polymerik has developed innovative new products for the passive fire protection industry. Pacific Urethanes said that, in a fire, the polymer composites transform into a ceramic once the activation temperature is reached, while retaining the original structure. The material is stable at up to 1000 deg C, the company notes.
Pacific Urethanes said the technology, sold under the trade name Cerpol, is “very effective in a wide range of polymers and rubbers, including foamed and elastomeric polyurethanes."
Composites can be made flexible or rigid to meet the particular requirements of a fire-protection component or material including sealing penetrations, rigid extrusions, mastics, sealants and sheet.
