Engel and Cantoni combine injection and blow molding

Published: September 26, 2012 6:00 am ET

Engel Holding GhbH and Cantoni Srl worked together to create a process called inject2blow, combining injection molding and blow molding in one mold on one injection press.

The process significantly reduces the time and cost to manufacture cosmetic, drug and food containers.

An Engel Victory injection press with 90 metric tons of clamping force, running a two-by-two cavity mold made by Cantoni can mold wide-necked jars with a cycle time of less than 14 seconds.

Normally, preforms have to be first have to be made using injection molding, then subjected a second process on a blow molding machine. Inject2blow happens in one process.

The system includes a Cantoni sliding-table mold and an Engel Viper linear robot to remove finished parts. Engel

S CC 200 controller runs both injection and blow molding.

Engel is based in Schwertberg, Austria. Cantoni is in Abbadia Lariana, Italy.

The machinery maker’s U.S. operation, Engel Machinery Inc., is in York, Pa.
