LEVALLOIS, FRANCE (Sept. 27, 11:05 a.m. ET) — Plastic Omnium SA of France plans to build its third plant in Russia, in Saint Petersburg, in 2013, amid the ever growing demand for auto parts in the country, the company said.

The implementation of the project will be carried out by the joint venture of Plastic Omnium and the Russian manufacturer of fuel systems Detalstroykonstruktsiya, which was established this April.

Other details of the project, including the exact location of the plant, its capacity and the total volume of investments were not disclosed.

It is planned that the majority of future production of the plant will be supplied for the needs of global automakers, which operate their plants in the region, among which are the Russian factories of Nissan, General Motors and Ford, the contracts with which have already been signed.

According to the company’s plans, by 2015 the new plant will produce more than 1 million fuel tanks, which will allow it to take 40 percent of the regional market.

Currently Plastic Omnium already operates factories in Stavrovo, which produces fuel systems, primarily for Renault, and in Togliatti, which supplies parts for AvtoVAZ.

In addition to two Russian factories, currently Plastic Omnium operates 103 factories around the world.

In recent years St. Petersburg has become a centre of Russian auto parts production. So far, its plants in the region have already been established by such well-known global makers of auto parts as Magna, Gestamp and Antolin.
