HOUSTON (Sept. 28, 2 p.m. ET) — JMC Killion Laboratories is changing its name to PolyWRX LLC and has moved to a new 27,000 square foot location in Houston that is more than three times the size of its former site.
“The main thing is that we are expanding and adding capabilities. Our old space no longer met our needs. We’ve expanded for polymer and film analysis and added extrusion lines,” said Emery Jorgenson, owner and partner of PolyWRX, in a telephone interview.
The new name illustrates its independence and was suggested by Emery’s son and partner Chris, who is vice president of operations. Emery Jorgenson said that it is better fit for what they do.
Jorgenson said his company was formerly aligned with Davis-Standard LLC and served as manufacturer’s representative for its Killion extruder line. However, that is no longer true and PolyWRX — pronounced “Polyworks” — can independently help its customers.
The company formerly occupied an 8,600 square foot space in Houston, but started the move in late August. Jorgenson said some cosmetic work still needs to done. However, the company is planning basic extruder and polymer analysis workshops, with the first on basic extrusion set for Nov. 7-8.
The company continues its relationship with PerkinElmer Inc., which has collaborated with JMC Killion for about four years. PerkinElmer will have its Gulf Coast technology center in the new space, occupying about 2,800 square feet.
PolyWRX offers extrusion processing for the development of new film, sheet, blown film, rod, wire coating, foaming and tubing products. It will also expand its co-extrusion capabilities and training seminars.
“One of our biggest areas is with bio-degradable resins,” said Jorgenson, noting that the firm has worked with food packaging and plastic bag companies.
The expansion allows for increased secrecy and has separate areas for secure testing. It has added analytical testing capabilities and will also continue gel analysis with its Leica microscope.
Jorgenson Machinery Corp will continue as a sales entity to buy and sell used and new extrusion machinery as well as analytical instruments. It does not have any representative agreements with any equipment manufacturers and will be able to work with any company.
