WICKLIFFE, OHIO (Oct. 4, 2:05 p.m. ET) — Lubrizol Corp. will spend $125 million to build a new plant making chlorinated PVC resins and compounds in Deer Park, Texas.

In an Oct. 4 news release, officials with Wickliffe, Ohio-based Lubrizol said the new capacity will serve the firm’s building and construction customers on a global basis. The firm has seen especially strong CPVC demand in India.

Lubrizol already operates an additives plant in Deer Park. The new plant will be the company’s third global CPVC production site, joining plants in Louisville, Ky., and Oevel, Belgium.

Officials said in the release that several options were considered before the Deer Park site was selected for the new plant. Placing it there will allow the new facility to leverage Lubrizol’s current infrastructure and expertise, they said.

Other benefits to the Deer Park location include close proximity to the Gulf shipping channel and direct access to a pipeline for chlorine feedstock, officials added.

“By expanding our manufacturing footprint, we are ensuring future technology requirements are met and our responses to changes in demand are well managed,” Lubrizol Advanced Materials president Eric Schnur said in the release.

“With this additional capacity, we will be in a much stronger position to serve the needs of our existing and future customers globally,” he added.

Capacity totals, jobs numbers and square footage of the new plant were not disclosed. The site is expected to open by the end of 2014.

Lubrizol is a leading producer of lubricant additives and specialty plastics, including CPVC and thermoplastic polyurethanes. The firm employs about 7,000 worldwide and posted sales of $6.1 billion in 2011.
