Dart drop impact tester designed for sheet materials

Thwing-Albert Instrument Co. has introduced a dart drop impact tester, for measuring the impact resistance of plastic film, coated paper and other sheet materials.

The company in West Berlin, N.J., said the testing instrument is easy to use ergonomically designed. For safety, designers added a pneumatic sample clamp that requires dual-switch activation to secure the sample, and then high-pressure before testing that initiates an automatic dart release.

The dart drop impact tester can be configured to meet method A and method B of ASTM D1709, along with ISO 7765-1. It joins the Spencer Impact attachment for the Elmendorf tear tester as a new method to measure impact on plastic film, sheet and laminated materials.
