Understanding the product liability risks that run along the supply chain should be a top priority of medical-device makers, said lawyer Andrew Cox in an address during the Plastics in Medical Devices 2012 conference in Westlake, Ohio. Cox details the process in this latest Experts Speaks video. Cox, a partner with Cleveland-based law firm Thompson Hine LLP, laid out an overview of generic supply chain from raw material suppliers to compounders to molders to designers and detailed risks associated with the various participants in the chain. A company’s particular exposure to risk depends upon that firm’s position in the complex supply chain, Cox said. A knowledge of liability risks can aid medical-device makers in developing strategies to avoid or mitigate those risks, he said. The conference, hosted by Plastics News, was held June 12-13.
