WESTLAKE, OHIO (Oct. 17, 1:35 p.m. ET) — Understanding the product liability risks that run along the supply chain should be a top priority of medical-device makers, said lawyer Andrew Cox in an address during the Plastics in Medical Devices 2012 conference in Westlake.

Cox details the process in this latest Experts Speak video.

Cox, a partner with Cleveland-based law firm Thompson Hine LLP, laid out an overview of generic supply chain — from raw material suppliers to compounders to molders to designers — and detailed risks associated with the various participants in the chain.

A company’s particular exposure to risk depends upon that firm’s position in the complex supply chain, Cox said. A knowledge of liability risks can aid medical-device makers in developing strategies to avoid or mitigate those risks, he said.

The conference, hosted by Plastics News, was held June 12-13.
