WILMINGTON, DEL. (Oct. 26, 1:15 p.m. ET) — DuPont Co. is adding a pilot-scale, nine-layer blown film line to its Packaging & Industrial Polymers’ development laboratory at its headquarters in Wilmington.

The company’s sealants and tie-layer materials are a vital component of multilayer packaging and the new line will let customers develop new packaging structures quickly, cost effectively and with less materials, according to a news release.

“The ability to work with customers on new ideas and test those ideas is an essential part of the development cycle and can help ensure new packaging structures are optimized for performance, cost-effectiveness and sustainability,” said Kurt Adams, vice president of innovation and technology for DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers, in the release.

DuPont also has development laboratories in China, Brazil, Switzerland, India, Japan and Canada. The labs aim to help DuPont customers bring innovations to market faster and with less investment.

The company will highlight its development programs in a series of interactive events at the upcoming Pack Expo International 2012, Oct. 28-31 in Chicago.
