CPI Binani adds robotics

Composite parts maker CPI Binani Inc. in Winona, Minn., has invested in a robotic cell container with two Fanuc M-710iC/70 robots.

The robots will do repetitive part finishing tasks and do the heavy lifting needed to manipulate parts. That will free up employees to focus on higher value-adding activities such as process and quality improvement, the company said.

Both six-axis Fanuc robots operate in unison, allowing the robots to rotate a part in nearly any plane, with a payload of more than 150 pounds per robot. The wrists of the robot reach out more than 80 inches.

The two robots are in a fixed area that creates a space where they can work without rising injury or damaging themselves.

CPI Binani provided training to employees in robotic programming and maintenance.

KMT Robotic Solutions Inc., the vendor for the robotic cell, trained CPI Binani employees for two weeks at its headquarters in Auburn Hills, Mich.

CPI Binani produces composite parts using its direct long fiber thermoplastics technology.
