PolyFusion antimicrobial marketed as SafeTouch

Published: November 7, 2012 6:00 am ET

PolyFusion LLC has received the SafeTouch trade name for its new antimicrobial masterbatch for thermoplastics.

PolyFusion , based in Angola, Ind., spent more than two years developing the antimicrobial and says it is effective for the lifetime of the relevant plastic product.

SafeTouch has a fast mode of action compared with ion exchange and phenol-based antimicrobials.

PolyFusion says it is marketing the non-leaching, non-mutating antimicrobial where control of the environmental bio-burden is key. It is EPA registered and available in pellets and powders. The masterbatch is compatible with commodity and engineering resins and the company claims it is thermally stable under processing conditions.

The product kills microbes by destroying cell walls.

PolyFusion received the trade name a few months after a manufacturer’s representative began marketing it under a more generic name.
