Borealis AG has boosted performance and processing in food packaging with the introduction of a transparent polypropylene.
Borpact SH950MO combines transparency and good drop impact properties at low temperatures. Its high melt flow rate of 40 improves processability. Stiffness also is greater than its predecessor PP from Borealis. The Vienna, Austria, company says high flow allows lower processing temperatures that save energy and cycle time.
Although the new PP was developed mainly for packaging deep-freeze products such as ice cream and frozen food, its impact and clarity can be advantageous for a wider range of consumer packaging and housewares, Borealis claims.
