ANCASTER, ONTARIO (Nov. 12, 4:30 p.m. ET) — Plasmatreat North America officially opened a new sales and technical center in October in Ancaster, Ontario, about 45 miles west of Toronto.

The 6,000-square-foot facility comprises sales offices, technical service, spare parts and equipment manufacturing for the firm’s atmospheric plasma cleaning, activation and coating processes. Customer support and maintenance will be provided from the site for all of the Americas, Plasmatreat announced Nov. 10.

Tim Smith, vice president heading the Ancaster operation, said Plasmatreat moved from its former Mississauga, Ontario, location to Ancaster because the new site is conveniently located halfway between Toronto and Buffalo, N.Y., and near the Hamilton, Ontario, airport for easy transportation access.

Plasmatreat has effectively been operating in Ancaster since the beginning of the year, Smith said in a telephone interview. Plasmatreat continues to operate in Elgin, Ill., its U.S. head office and in Belmont, Calif., where it acquired PTS Plasma Technology Systems LLC about a year ago. Plasmatreat GmbH of Steinhagen, Germany, is the parent company of the North American operations.

The firm’s atmospheric plasma technology is used to treat plastics and other surfaces to clean them and to improve coating and bonding. Among its benefits are the ability to use more environmentally benign technologies such as water-based coatings and to improve productivity through bonding techniques in assembly. Smith said major markets include automotive, electronics, packaging and medical..

Plasmatreat also runs engineering centers in Japan and China and has subsidiaries and sales offices in more than 25 countries.

The official opening in Ancaster coincided with Plasmatreat North America’s annual sales meeting which included Plasmatreat Group President Christian Buske and Plasmatreat North America President and CEO Andy Stecher.
