CHICAGO (Nov. 13, 1:05 p.m. ET) — Pressure-sensitive tape manufacturer Shurtape Technologies LLC has introduced company-branded packaging equipment tape heads for high-speed automated case sealing.

The two new ShurSEAL tape heads — introduced at Pack Expo in Chicago in late October — have multiple flexible wipe-down points which enable full utilization of the tape's adhesive to form a secure seal, even on under-filled cartons, the company.

Those wipe-down points also provides increased fiber tear when the tape is removed, offering tamper evident security, said Shurtape.

The ShurSEAL SP 7000 runs at line speeds up to 160 feet per minute and is made from 100 percent stainless steel/anodized aluminum for wash-down in sanitary applications. The ShurSEAL SP 6000 runs up to 120 feet per minute and has a corrosion-resistant mild steel construction designed for long-term use in most environments

The tape heads have a dual-axis locking mandrel, front and rear tab length adjustments, a self-cleaning safety blade and an exclusive folded-edge technology that creates a secure, easy-to-open seal that doesn't require a knife, minimizing potential damage to products when the carton is opened.

Shurtape, based in Hickory, N.C., also introduced a new packaging tape, HP 132, with a synthetic rubber/resin hot melt adhesive for that will provide a permanent bond in sub-freezing temperature.

The company said that HP 1332 is designed for use in product packaging, meat and poultry processing, dairy facilities and unheated warehouses in cold-weather climates.

The ShurSEAL tape heads can be retrofitted to most case-erecting and sealing systems.
