ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 10:35 a.m. ET) – Plastics distribution company Curbell Plastics Inc. won an award for the Most Improved Environmental Sustainability program at the recent International Association of Plastics Distribution (IAPD) Convention & Plastics Expo.

Curbell was cited for achieving zero-landfill status at its two largest facilities in Orchard Park. In addition, the company has been nominated for Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Cleaner Greener New York campaign.

Since 2008, when Curbell began tracking its recycling using the EPA’s WasteWise program, the company has increased materials recycling from 212.59 tons per year to 391.3 tons in 2011.

“Curbell is committed to embracing environmental sustainability principals in order to reduce costs and improve the communities in which we live and do business,” Senior Environmental Health and Safety Manager Mark Shriver said in a news release.

Cost savings in the sustainability project include $4,000 annually by eliminating fax lines at the corporate headquarters, a print management project that is expected to save $250,000 over the next five years, and projects that are expected to reduce reduce Curbell’s energy consumption by 25-30 percent.
