WARSAW, POLAND (Nov. 19, 12:55 p.m. ET) — Housewares group Curver Ltd. and newly established fibers group Filatura di Saluzzo srl have been named the winners of the Best Recycled Plastic Product 2012 competition.

Curver’s Ecolife Neo baskets won the award in the B2C category, said European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organisations (EPRO), which organizes the competition. The baskets are made at Curver’s plant in Hungary using post-consumer polypropylene.

Filatura di Saluzzo won the B2B category with Newlife, which is a filament yarn made of recycled polyester. Filatura di Saluzzo, based in Italy, was established in May when Miroglio Textile reorganized its polyester filament yarn division with the involvement of Sinterama Group.

Eirik Oland, head of communication at Brussels-based EPRO, said: “This year’s winners clearly show the growing interest of well-known companies from the textile and plastic industry to demonstrate their commitment and work in the area of corporate social responsibility. These high quality products made of recycled plastics allow consumers and businesses to more fully understand the scope of their environmentally friendly actions.”

The winners were presented with their awards at the IdentiPlast 2012 conference in Warsaw on Nov. 6.

EPRO said it will run the competition again next year with the winners announced at Identiplast Paris in October.
